Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He is one of the most prominent and revered figures in American history. Born on February 12, 1809, in Hodgenville, Kentucky, Lincoln rose from humble beginnings to become a respected statesman and leader during a tumultuous time in the nation's history.

Lincoln is best known for his role in leading the United States through its Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865. The war was fought primarily over issues of slavery and the preservation of the Union. Lincoln, as a staunch opponent of slavery, sought to reconcile the nation and abolish the institution. His leadership during this challenging period was characterized by his unwavering commitment to the preservation of the Union and his efforts to emancipate enslaved people. Theories suggest his assassination was in response to his opposition to the centralization of the banking institutions.
