Francisco Goya (1746-1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker, widely considered one of the most important artists in European art history. He is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the modern painters. Goya's works played a crucial role in the transition from the traditional Baroque and Rococo periods to the more expressive and individualistic art movements of the 19th century. He was initially appointed as a court painter to the Spanish Crown. However, his work went a significant transformation due to a severe illness in 1793, which left him deaf which influenced his shift towards more introspective and critical themes in his art. One of his most notable paintings include "Saturn Devouring His Son" and "The Third of May 1808". He also painted magnificent pieces are art rich in religious and trancendental symbology.
